3. Give people a purpose
A good leader leads people by giving them purpose. Jesus Christ is very good at this.
He is able to direct people’s attention from what is to what should be. Jesus Christ did not just give people an ordinary purpose, but an extraordinary purpose. The purpose Jesus Christ gave extends beyond this life.
More than just our physical existence, Jesus Christ pointed out that there is more to life than meets the eyes.
He said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-20).
Jesus Christ is so good at motivating and inspiring people. He gives them purpose. If you want to be a leader, you should have the ability to instill in the hearts and minds of your followers the very purpose they have to live by.
4. Leading with humility
The problem with some leaders is that they become too proud because of their position. Some leaders think they are above anyone that they refuse to do lowly and dirty tasks such as picking the trash, mopping the floor, and cleaning the toilet. They see these tasks as something reserved for the followers.
However, this is not the case with Jesus Christ.
He is a leader and at the same time, a servant. On the night of Passover, He knelt down to wash the apostles’ feet (John 13:1-17). Stepping down in order to reach more people does not bother Jesus Christ. He said that if you want to be the greatest, you need to serve other people (Luke 22:24-27).
5. Improves Himself
A leader develops himself. From a very young age, Jesus Christ is into developing Himself. Luke 2:52 tells us, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men”.
This is the summary of Jesus Christ’s growing up years. This is a great checklist for any leader who wants to develop themselves.
It must be pointed out that you cannot give something you don’t have. If you haven’t developed the qualities of being a good leader, then it is difficult for you to lead other people. Developing yourself is not a one-time action, but it must be continuous and consistent.
Final Words
These are some of the qualities Jesus Christ exemplified as a leader. In the final analysis, whether you hold a leadership position or not, you can aim in developing these qualities.
Ultimately, we will all be kings and priests in the kingdom of God. This is the main reason that all Christians should aim in developing themselves to become future leaders, both now and in the coming reign of God.
