Abraham is no doubt one of the most prominent biblical figures in the Bible. He is not just a spiritual giant in Christianity, but also in Judaism and Islam.

No doubt: Abraham is what most people would consider a good example of faith in the Bible. Here are some of the stellar biblical records of Abraham:

  • Called the friend of God (II Chronicles 20:7)
  • Established a covenant with God to become the father of many nations
  • Passed the test of sacrificing his son, Isaac
  • Had a personal relationship with God

His spiritual resume may look impressive, but we must remember that he is like any of us.

Abraham lied about his wife, which is a way for him to deceive king Abimelech. He didn’t simply lie once, but at least twice.

His biggest and most serious sin was to have a son with Hagar, which leads to hundreds of years of conflict. A problem that we are still seeing today.

What is the lesson we should learn here?

    Here’s the lesson:

Yahweh works with imperfect human beings.

We can never be perfect and mistakes and sins are bound to happen.

However, this doesn’t mean that we are already a failure.

    God gives us a chance.

As long as we repent, we change our ways, and live for the better, God will forgive us and help us grow and mature.

It is not about being imperfect, but it is about the willingness to change and stay faithful in God.
