7 Compelling Reasons to Read the Bible

As Christians and followers of Jesus Christ (properly known as Yahshua the Messiah), we are instructed to read the Bible regularly. However, do you really know why you should read the Bible? You see, knowing the reason why we should read the Bible would give us a strong motivation to stay committed to reading the Scripture.
That’s why I want to share with you 7 reasons why you should read the Bible. Now, there are just numerous important reasons to do so. However, I just want to focus on a particular verse we find in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. We read:
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
1. Scripture is breathed by God
So, the first reason to read the Bible is that it is the inspiration of God. If you looked at the Greek word “inspiration,” it literally means the Scripture is breathed by God, meaning, it comes directly from Him. Yes, there were about 30 to 40 people who wrote the books and letters we have in the Bible, but they are all moved and inspired by Yahweh, the supreme Ruler of this vast universe.
2. Scripture is for doctrine
The second reason is that the Scripture is profitable for doctrine. This tells us that our doctrine should be based on the Word of God and not on what we feel or think is true or right.
3. Scripture is for reproof
The third reason is that the Scripture is for reproof. This means that God’s word can be used as a proof or evidence of what we believe. It serves as a living testimony of our faith.
4. Scripture is for correction
The fourth reason is that the Scripture is for correction. If we are going in the wrong direction, we can use the Bible to lead us back in the right direction. We can use the Bible to know which way to go. When we are in doubt, we can always go to the Bible and learn God’s truth.
5. Scripture is for instruction
The fifth reason is that the Scripture is for instruction in righteousness. This means that the Bible shows the right way to live. It gives us timeless principles that help us make the right decisions in life. It shows us what God wants us to do and what we should be doing in our life.
6. Scripture makes us complete
The sixth reason is that the Scripture makes us complete. We may live this life and forget God, but that will only mean that we are living an incomplete life. Jesus or Yahshua asked us an important question in Mark 8:36: 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
By studying the word of God, we will be complete. It shows us how to fulfill the purpose of our very existence.
7. Scripture helps us to do good works
Finally, the seventh reason for us to read the Bible is that the Scripture equips us for every good work. This means that the Bible helps us understand the will of God and how we can translate that into our lives. The Bible shows us that merely understanding the Scripture is not enough and that we should and must put it into action. We must not stop at simply reading the Bible, but we should always aim to perform good works.
